UNHCR does more than just respond to emergency situations. We also provide ongoing care for those who are displaced to help improve their quality of life.

Why Ongoing Support for Refugees is Important

UNHCR’s work extends beyond providing emergency aid during developing crises—though that support remains very important. After the immediate needs of refugees and displaced families have been met, UNHCR continues to provide life-saving assistance on an ongoing basis. This includes education, healthcare, shelter and more, which helps forcibly displaced people rebuild their lives. UNHCR also provides ongoing care to vulnerable communities such as women, children, girls, and LGBTIQ+ refugees who may face additional challenges. Being able to provide stable assistance to communities who have faced and survived unimaginable trauma is why ongoing support for refugees is so important.

How You Can Support Refugees

You can also learn more about UNHCR’s work to support refugees during and in the aftermath of emergencies.
